About the role
The Oregon Department of Human Services seeks a Public Benefits Specialist - Entry, bilingual in English and Chuukese, to assist Oregonians in accessing vital services and fostering equity and well-being.
Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming environment for individuals and families to interact with the department.
- Support the day-to-day operation of the office.
- Assist Oregonians in resolving questions and guiding them through the Oregon Eligibility application process for ODHS, OHA, and DELC programs.
- Work with a trauma-informed lens to support Oregonians facing financial or emotional hardship.
- May include financial desk responsibilities.
- Learn more about our programs, as your work will be through the Self-Sufficiency Program (SSP).
Requirements
- Bilingual in Chuukese and English.
- Two years of experience working in a reception area or call center, involving a high volume of work.
- An associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field, combined with six months of experience in a busy reception area or call center.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relative to the class concept.
Essential Attributes
- Extensive experience providing front-line customer service in a high-volume reception or front desk environment.
- Proven ability to adapt communication styles to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated expertise in supporting customers facing financial or emotional hardship with professionalism, empathy, and compassion.
- Skilled in handling, collecting, and safeguarding confidential and sensitive information.
- Proficient in navigating various digital platforms, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, email systems, and online search tools.
