About the role
The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a bilingual Public Benefits Specialist to join the Oregon Eligibility Partnership (OEP). OEP is a program that determines eligibility for various benefits through the ONE eligibility system. This role requires a strong understanding of eligibility processes and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients in understanding and applying for medical, food, cash, and childcare benefits through the ONE eligibility system.
- Provide clear and concise explanations of eligibility criteria and application processes to clients.
- Review and verify client information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Handle confidential information with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to improve service delivery.
- Ensure timely completion of tasks and maintain attention to detail.
Requirements
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- One year of experience working at the Human Services Specialist 1 level for the State of Oregon; OR two years of experience working with the public, providing assistance and interpreting and applying policies, rules, or guidelines; OR an associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field AND six months of experience working with the public, providing assistance and interpreting and applying policies, rules, or guidelines; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relative to the class concept.

- Experience communicating decisions regarding the approval or denial of benefits or services and adapting communication style to diverse audiences.
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive situations and information with unwavering professionalism.
- Demonstrated willingness to uphold the ODHS Core Values and provide customer service that is person-centered and trauma-informed.
- Experience developing collaborative relationships that foster trust, inclusivity, and respect with internal and external partners.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

$4,519 - $5,988 annually.
