About the role

The Oregon Department of Human Services seeks a Public Benefits Specialist - Entry to join our team in Southeast Portland. This role is bilingual in English and Chuukese and plays a crucial part in the Self-Sufficiency Program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming environment for individuals and families seeking assistance.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the office.
  • Assist Oregonians in applying for various state and federal programs.
  • Work with individuals facing financial and emotional hardships with empathy and professionalism.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with care.
  • Navigate various digital platforms to support the office's needs.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Chuukese.
  • Two years of experience in a reception area or call center.
  • An associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field.
  • Six months of experience in a busy reception area or call center.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in customer service in a high-volume setting.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles for diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in supporting customers facing financial and emotional hardship.
  • Proficiency in data entry and verification.
  • Experience handling and safeguarding confidential information.
  • Knowledge of various digital platforms, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email systems, and online search tools.

Essential Attributes

  • Proven ability to adapt communication styles for diverse audiences.
  • Experience providing front-line customer service in a high-volume reception or front desk environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting customers facing financial or emotional hardship.
  • Skilled in handling, collecting, and safeguarding confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experienced in accurately entering and verifying detailed data.
  • Proficient in navigating various digital platforms.

Pay
