About the role
New York Edge is seeking a passionate, mission-driven team-builder to fill the role of After School Program Director. In this part-time role, you will have overall accountability for the growth, quality, and success of the assigned after school program operation, its students, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Oversees program staff, program operations, services, and the implementation of programs and/or processes in order to provide services within established timeframes and in compliance.
- Counsels staff performance evaluations and development plans in coordination with Program Manager and HR.
- Provides weekly and monthly team meetings that encourage opportunities for team feedback and discussions about classroom management, lesson planning, writing prompts, and social emotional learning.
- Communicates regularly with supervisor on program updates, progress, and needs.
- Collaborates with Program Manager, Borough Director, and New York Edge Curriculum and Training Departments to develop and implement monthly all staff professional development workshops/seminars.
- Collaborates with Principal and APs on program delivery to align with goals in relation to student achievement and performance.
- Maintains program compliance, including but not limited to, student registration, staff documents, ratios, attendance tracking, IDs, and building permits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work.
- At least 18.0 credit hours from an accredited college or university in the field of Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in urban education, youth development or community organizing with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth & adolescents in New York City in an after school or community center setting.
Qualifications
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow, while maintaining a positive, patient and calm demeanor, and establishing a positive team spirit with staff, students, and entire school community.
- Strong understanding of New York City and New York State education requirements in an urban setting.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person, virtually and over the phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand.
- Must be able to articulate outcome requirements and provide the necessary and appropriate resources and support for school and New York Edge staff members to successfully deliver on objectives.
- Knowledge of after-school programs, supervising staff, and program planning.
- Ability to de-escalate potentially risky or difficult situations.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Benefits
- Part-time role with flexible schedule: Monday-Friday, 12pm-6pm.
- Competitive pay: $35 per hour.
Schedule
- Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but is required to interact with the community at-large during events, outreach, and trips.
- May be required to walk up and down stairs, lift or move objects/materials as needed.
- Work hours will be consistent Monday through Friday with potential for some weekend or evening scheduled activities or events.
