About the Role

This position is for a Psychologist, CF (Clinical Fellow) located at Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) in Soledad, Monterey County. Main communication for this position will be through email.

Under the general direction of the Senior Psychologist, Correctional Facility (Supervisor), the Psychologist-Clinical, Correctional Facility is responsible for:

  • Preadmission screenings and psychologist evaluation of inmates admitted to the program
  • Crisis intervention, individual therapy, treatment, and discharge planning
  • Participation in interdisciplinary team evaluations
  • Consultation with psychiatrists, nursing staff, and other professionals
  • Assignment to other clinical duties throughout the institution, including staff meetings, institutional committees, and consultations with custody staff
  • Supervision and training of students, interns, unlicensed psychologists, and other staff
  • Participation in program evaluation and research, including consultation on research design and data analysis

Pay

This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rates are:

  • P: $11,496 per month
  • Q: $13,937 per month

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 19 (and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees) to have their base salary reduced by 3% and receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis.

Effective May 1, 2022, employees in this class who are physically located at and assigned to the Psychiatric Inpatient Program and provide direct patient care more than 50% of the pay period receive a 15% pay differential of their monthly base pay.

Eligible candidates may receive:

  • A $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment
  • A monthly recruitment and retention differential during their first year (totaling $20,000)

CDCR and CCHCS employees may be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days.
