Psychiatric RN-Per Diem- Sylmar

About the Role

Responsible for the delivery of psychiatric nursing care/services to members being treated in the behavioral health service departments. Provides interventions that promote and foster health, assess dysfunction, assist patients to regain or improve their coping abilities, maximize patient strengths, and prevent further disability. These interventions focus on psychiatric-mental health patients and include health promotion, health maintenance, monitoring patients, assisting with self-care activities, and monitoring psycho-biological treatment regimens. The role also involves triage decisions and facilitating patient movement into appropriate services.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with pharmacy regarding approved medications.
• Provides information and education to members in a variety of forums.
• Documents services rendered utilizing standard nursing procedures in member charts.
• Triages phone calls and refers to appropriate staff or community resources.
• Assists psychiatrists with coordinating internal and external hospitalizations of members.
• Performs basic physical assessments of patients, including vital signs and monitoring for side effects of psychiatric medications, and refers information to physicians as appropriate.
• Provides prescribed medications to patients per physicians' orders following appropriate protocol.
• Utilizes electronic medical records for medication refills.
• Reviews lab results and refers to physicians within protocols and guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Administrator and/or Chief of Psychiatry.

Requirements

• Minimum one (1) year of recent (within the last three (3) years) RN Psychiatric experience.
• Graduate from an accredited Nursing School.
• Registered Nurse License (California).
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
• Psychiatric and chemical dependency knowledge.
• Able to triage and evaluate various aspects of the psychiatric population.
• Group leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Telephone triage experience.
• BSN preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
• Outpatient psychiatric experience preferred.

Schedule

• Per Diem (as needed).
• Day shift: Monday through Friday.
• One Saturday per month.
• Working hours: 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM.

Employee may be required to go to SCL for coverage as needed.

Pay

$72.34 - $93.16 per hour. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market-competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
