Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

About the Role

This part-time, onsite position provides mental health support for students within a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) scope of practice. Work days and hours for the part-time position are negotiated at hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders, including:
  • Obtaining a relevant medical and psychiatric history.
  • Formulating an appropriate differential diagnosis based on the history and clinical findings.
  • Developing an appropriate plan of care and a follow-up plan of care.
• Provide psychopharmacologic interventions to treat symptoms of a full range of psychiatric illnesses based on current best practices and accepted standards of clinical management.
• Serve as a resource and provide consultation to clinicians at the Student Health Center (SHC) and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
• Follow current best practices in psychopharmacologic management and develop an individualized treatment approach based on symptoms, preferences, culture, lifestyle, comorbidities, risks, and benefits of the plan for the student.
• Maintain appropriate documentation for all services in the electronic medical records system.
• Build and maintain collaborative working relationships.
• Stay current with advances in psychiatry through appropriate continuing education as required for licensure.
• Participate in SHC Quality Assurance activities, provider meetings, case conferences, and peer review.
• Maintain currency of licensure, certification, and continuing education.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director under minimal supervision.

Schedule

• Academic Year: Monday - Wednesday 9am - 5pm and Thursday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm
• Summer: Monday through Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm, closed in July

Requirements

• Master or DNP degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Licensed as an ARNP with prescriptive authority in Washington state and DEA licensure.
• Minimum 2 years' experience providing professional clinical services, preferably in an outpatient setting and/or in a university health center.
• Experience working with primary care providers.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to quickly synthesize medical and psychiatric data and formulate effective, evidence-based clinical recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with primary care psychiatry or consultation psychiatry.
• A demonstrated interest in providing direct service to a diverse college population.

Physical Requirements

• Occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computers.
• Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Pay

$90 - $95/hourly. Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
