The University Counseling Center (UCC) at The University of Utah welcomes applications for a Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner (APRN) to join our clinical multidisciplinary team.

About the role

This position involves performing psychiatric evaluations and medication management for university students, assisting clinical staff with treatment planning, crisis intervention, and inpatient hospitalization, and providing clinical consultation to Counseling Center and Student Health Center colleagues. A solid knowledge base of relevant community resources is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for University Counseling Center clients.
  • Develop and implement psychopharmacologic treatment plans according to client needs.
  • Provide ongoing medication management, monitoring, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Engage in ongoing consultation with primary therapist around treatment recommendations and treatment planning.
  • Assist clinical staff with crisis intervention and inpatient hospitalization as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant campus and community resources and refer as needed.
  • Document all professional activities in clinical notes in a clear and timely fashion.
  • Provide clinical consultation to University Counseling Center and Student Health Center colleagues.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
  • Nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner as required under State Law.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification.
  • Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area; demonstrated leadership, teaching, research, and communication skills.
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges preferred.
  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements, including immunization according to CDC standards and hospital policy.

Preferences

  • Specialty experience providing psychiatric care to young adults and college students, including expertise in the differential diagnosis of common conditions such as anxiety, depression, and attention-deficit disorders.
  • Professional work experience as a fully-licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) prescribing in a college/university counseling center setting.

Pay

$125,000 - $141,000 for 1.0 FTE, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

Typically within Monday – Friday, 8am–5pm.
