Psychiatric Med Prescriber

About the role

Provide psychiatric diagnostic and evaluation, prescribing, medication management, referrals, and support for persons with mental health concerns. Provide addiction diagnoses and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and work closely with the medical, clinical, and administrative multi-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care. Perform patient care direct service in accordance with service excellence standards. This position includes maintaining paperwork, timely completion of clinical documentation, participating in treatment team meetings, and occasional community meetings.

Responsibilities

• Follow Willapa Behavioral Health & Wellness Service Excellence Standards, Code of Ethics, and Policies and Procedures.
• Adhere to rules of confidentiality and accommodate a diverse population.
• Provide initial diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and follow-up appointments.
• Assign diagnoses to patients with acute or chronic mental health, substance use disorders, and/or other addictions.
• Complete initial diagnostic evaluation and associated clinical documentation according to best practices and agency standards.
• Prescribe medications and coordinate with pharmacies, including bubble packing of specific clients’ medications.
• Review medications upon arrival at WBHW for accuracy and maintain sample inventory.
• Facilitate the administration of injectable medications, ensuring proper storage, sterile technique, and client comfort.
• Monitor for side effects, maintain emergency medication, and explain potential reactions to clients.
• Attend professional training, conferences, and workshops to maintain certification (75-124 CEU hours, 1500-2000 hours of work experience every 5 years).
• Maintain collaborative relationships with agencies, pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, ER physicians, PCPs, nurses, school counselors, nursing home staff, insurance companies, and patient assistance programs.
• Perform client medication reviews, remediate aberrant findings, and maintain Release of Information (ROI) between clients and care providers.
• Complete all clinical documentation (diagnosis, evaluation, notifications, medication management) within three business days of appointments.
• Perform medication checks, review laboratory results, and consult with other providers as necessary.
• Complete other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
• Work on-site as necessary or remotely using telehealth technology as determined by management.

Requirements

• Valid Washington State Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Psychologist license.
• Two years’ experience in each of the following: Psychiatry, Primary Care, and Residential Treatment Facility.
• Certification in Psychiatry strongly recommended.
• Minimum of two years’ experience practicing independently with minimal oversight.
• At least three years’ experience working with individuals with mental health, substance use disorders, and other addictions.

• Maintain good rapport with staff and provide supervision, direction, and support.
• Competency in working with a diverse population of adults and children.
• Ability to work effectively within the medical/nursing model and DSM diagnostics.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries with consumers and staff, demonstrating sound judgment.
• Detail- and deadline-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer proficiency for EMR documentation, telehealth, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent customer service with a client-focused approach.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Standing and walking briskly for emergencies.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times and access all areas of the facility.
• Able to sit, stand, and move for long hours and lift up to 25 pounds.

Other Requirements

• Undergo and pass a criminal background check upon initial employment and as required by the agency.
• Meet requirements of the agency’s drug-free workplace policy.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to drive in daylight, darkness, and typical Northwest weather conditions.
• Flexible to fill-in shifts if needed.
• Meet current Washington healthcare vaccination requirements for healthcare workers.
• Maintain positive, supportive working relationships with CEO, Clinical Director, management, medical team, and staff.

Pay

$70 - $75 per hour
