Psych Peer Specialist – Mobile Crisis - Columbia - Part Time
NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center unites top clinicians and researchers in behavioral health, offering a premier opportunity within the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP). The Mobile Crisis Service provides outreach to individuals in Washington Heights, Inwood, and nearby Bronx neighborhoods experiencing psychiatric crises who have been unable to access mental health treatment. The team conducts home visits to assess clinical needs, reduce crisis severity, and connect individuals with resources such as outpatient clinics, substance abuse treatment, social support services, and psychiatric emergency rooms.
About the Role
The Psych Peer Specialist is an active member of the CPEP Team, providing peer support services to patients with serious mental illnesses. Under the supervision of Mobile Crisis Social Workers, the Psych Peer Specialist serves as a role model, consumer advocate, and promoter of community socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, and development of natural support. Responsibilities include assisting with patient triage, accompanying staff on field visits, and responding to patient emergencies.
Schedule
- Part-time, three days per week
- Monday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 12:45 PM
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Certificate from a state-approved peer specialist training program from OMH
- Active BLS certification from AHA
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Previous experience working with multi-cultural and/or underserved communities

Pay
Salary range: $21.00–$25.00 per hour.
All roles require on-site presence, and employees must live within a commutable distance to NYP. Travel expenses are not reimbursed.
