This position manages plant utilities and ammonia refrigeration Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance at a complex manufacturing location in Spencer, WI. The role leads technical and cultural change in Utilities, PSM, and resource conservation while managing other technical resources.
Responsibilities
- Manages, directs, and mentors the utilities maintenance staff on the service, repair, and preventative maintenance of plant utility systems to prevent interruptions of daily plant operations.
- Ensures utilities maintenance staff is adequately trained on operational procedures related to utility systems and maintains a safe working environment.
- Performs safety checks on ammonia refrigeration systems, water towers, chillers, boilers, air compressors, and electrical equipment.
- Ensures regularly scheduled preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting procedures on utility systems.
- Reports on utility system operational progress, building concerns, workloads, schedules, and interruptions.
- Oversees daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly utility checks.
- Leads the development of utility system Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Provides leadership and direction in developing short- and long-range maintenance plans.
- Develops capital plans and manages plant projects related to utility systems.
- Implements and maintains the Corporate Ammonia PSM Program, ensuring continuous updates to existing PSM and RMP programs.
- Directs reporting and regulatory compliance for EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP).
- Participates in PSM/RMP Compliance Audits, Process Hazard Analysis, and Mechanical Integrity Inspections, leading all plant-level follow-up activities.
- Manages the Ammonia Emergency Action Plan and ensures employee training for ammonia-related emergencies.
- Provides reports to Corporate’s regular update meetings and participates in Corporate PSM training events.
- Ensures appropriate PSM/RMP documentation and procedures (e.g., MOC, Line Break, PHA, PSSR) are followed for all ammonia projects.
- Develops a plan to gain Plant Management and employee support for resource conservation activities.
- Works with the Plant Management Team to secure funding for resource conservation projects.
- Collaborates with Plant and Corporate Engineering to integrate resource conservation measures into all capital projects.
Requirements
- High School Diploma with 5+ years of experience reflecting increasing responsibility or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 3+ years of related work experience.
- Experience in a food processing or manufacturing facility using a PSM-regulated ammonia refrigeration system.
- Working and technical knowledge of refrigeration and maintenance systems, equipment installation/startups, and plant utility equipment.
- Experience working with vendors and contractors.
- Ability to use AutoCAD to maintain up-to-date P&IDs and manage change.
- Current RETA Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) certification or ability to obtain it (or similar training) is preferred.
- Detailed knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, process hazard analysis, and process safety management (including regulations, consequence analysis, emergency relief, and ventilation systems) is preferred.
Pay
Salary Range: $81,200 - $121,800. In most cases, candidates offered employment can expect to be hired at a pay rate near the middle of the range.
