Requisition Number: PRN45779B | Full-time, non-exempt, patient-sensitive position | 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday day shift

About the role

Do you have a passion for helping others and a curiosity about healthcare? Whether you’re looking to take the first step into the medical field or grow your existing skills, we’re excited to welcome a new Outpatient Services Specialist to our Pediatric Orthopaedic team! This position is perfect for someone who loves working with people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and wants to support children and families in a busy clinic setting. You’ll receive on-the-job training and develop skills in medical systems like EPIC, patient interaction, scheduling, and more—all while working with a fun, supportive team that makes a real impact every day. You’ll primarily serve patients at our Salt Lake and Lehi locations, with occasional coverage in Layton and Provo as needed. No weekends required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-the-job learning across a variety of topics within pediatric orthopedics—including diagnoses, procedures, and workflows—so you can grow your knowledge and confidence over time.
  • Work collaboratively with team members across all departments—we rely on and learn from each other every day.
  • Use EPIC to schedule appointments, complete registration, check patients in/out, and manage work queues.
  • Triage patient phone calls and referrals (paper and electronic) to ensure patients are scheduled in the correct clinics.
  • Collect co-pays and assist with prior authorizations for procedures.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to patients and families, both in person and over the phone.
  • Apply newly learned clinical knowledge to your daily tasks in a fast-paced environment where every day brings something new.
  • Keep things moving efficiently while staying kind, organized, and detail-oriented.

Requirements

  • One year of office experience, customer service experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Current, valid Utah driver’s license at time of hire may be required in some areas.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements, including immunizations according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic clinic and is excited by the opportunity to learn something new every day.
  • A flexible team player who is open to change, eager to grow, and motivated to apply new knowledge in real time.
  • A strong communicator who brings professionalism, empathy, and enthusiasm to patient interactions and team collaboration.
  • Someone who values teamwork, asks questions, and contributes to a culture of continuous learning and support.

Pay

$22.57 per hour

Benefits

  • The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems (“URS”). Eligible new hires with prior URS service may elect to enroll in URS if they make the election before they become eligible for retirement (usually the first day of work).
