About the role

The Prosecution Division at the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is responsible for prosecuting all summonses issued by the TLC. The Division includes the Court Unit, which investigates and prosecutes over 100,000 summonses annually, and the Consumer Complaint Unit, which initiates and prosecutes complaints filed by consumers, including passengers and licensees. TLC’s mission is to promote the highest standards of safety and consumer protection within the industries it regulates.

As a Prosecution Unit Intern (College Aide), you will support the effective administration of prosecution-related functions, gain firsthand experience in regulatory enforcement, and contribute to protecting the riding public and ensuring compliance within New York City’s taxi and for-hire vehicle industry.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve and review For-Hire Vehicle (FHV) trip data to support case investigations.
  • Prepare affirmations and other case-related documentation.
  • Review and verify compliance documentation submitted by licensed bases.
  • Respond to inquiries from base representatives, providing accurate information in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Communicate with complainants and witnesses throughout the investigative process, utilizing strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Coordinate with translation services to ensure effective communication.
  • Perform a variety of administrative and operational support tasks assigned to assist the Prosecution Unit.

Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school.
  • Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school.
  • Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or a closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school.
  • Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or another area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
  • Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

Special Note:

  • Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years.
  • No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session.
  • Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Schedule

Part-time employment during school sessions (no more than half-time per week). Full-time employment permitted during vacation periods.
