Responsibilities

  • Examine claims forms, policies, endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine coverages.
  • Investigate claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, inspecting physical damage, and comparing claim information with evidence.
  • Set loss reserves.
  • Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing information required by clients, government agencies, and Crawford & Company.
  • Settle claims by determining insurance carrier’s liability, client’s instructions, and authority levels; obtain demands, make offers, issue settlement checks, file with regulatory agencies, dispose of salvage, and pursue subrogation when appropriate.
  • Control claim costs and maintain expected caseload.
  • Recommend litigation when appropriate and present evidence at legal proceedings.
  • Maintain company reputation and insurance product integrity by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Make sales calls to solicit new business or maintain existing business.
  • Assist and mentor junior adjusters with claims handling.
  • Maintain and grow a portfolio of business/clients.
  • Utilize technology and automation to maximize claim handling efficiency.
  • Conduct roof inspections as needed.
  • Uphold the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
  • Participate in special projects or perform duties in other areas as requested.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of property adjusting experience.
  • First-party claims experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a field environment.
  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience adjusting complex property claims or claims with heavy losses.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail and strong analytical and mathematical ability.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must complete continuing education requirements as outlined by Crawford Educational Services.
  • Associate in Claims (AIC) through AICPCU preferred.

Schedule

  • Variable schedule including on-call may be required.
  • May be required to work beyond normal business hours depending on caseload.
  • Travel may be required during or outside of normal business hours when necessary.
