About the role
The County of Del Norte, Assessor's Department, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one (1) vacancy for the position of Property Appraiser I/II/III. This position is classified as full-time.
Responsibilities
- Classifies and appraises residential, commercial, agricultural and other types of real properties for taxation purposes.
- Analyzes, interprets and documents all required information to derive equitable and justifiable property appraisals.
- Reviews real property records to ascertain property data.
- Conducts field inspection of property site to collect and verify property data.
- Interviews property owners and other relevant parties to obtain and verify property data.
- Reviews and verifies appraisal information on tax roll.
- Reviews and interprets regulations and requirements governing property appraisal.
- Draws property diagrams for appraisal and documentation purposes.
- Acts as information source to property owners and other interested parties regarding property appraisal matters.
- Compiles and organizes Assessor’s Office records for presentation at appeal hearings.
- Attends and participates in appeal hearings.
- Attends required hours of appraiser training courses annually.
Requirements
- Level I: Possession of either a four (4) year college degree from an accredited college or university OR Graduation from high school plus four years of relevant experience pursuant to Rule 283 of the California State Board of Equalization property tax rule; or an equivalent combination of education and experience subject to approval by the California State Board of Equalization.
- Level II: Possession of either a four (4) year college degree from an accredited college or university OR Graduation from high school plus four years of relevant experience pursuant to Rule 283 of the California State Board of Equalization property tax rule; or an equivalent combination of education and experience subject to approval by the California State Board of Equalization.
- Level III: Possession of a college degree or graduation from high school plus four years of relevant experience pursuant to Rule 283 of the California State Board of Equalization property tax rule and one (1) year in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures used in real property appraisal.
- Knowledge of state and local laws, codes and regulations governing property appraisal.
- Ability to apply appropriate methods, practices and procedures used in real property appraisal.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and verify property appraisal information.
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to draw legible diagrams of real property sites.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and tactful working relationships with fellow employees, representatives of other agencies and the general public.

Pay Scale:
- Level I: $2,045.07 - $2,254.69
- Level II: $2,202.33 - $2,428.07
- Level III: $2,371.67 - $2,614.76
