About the role
The City of Hampton’s Office of the Assessor of Real Estate seeks motivated individuals to fill three Appraiser positions. These roles are part of a welcoming and inclusive workplace that recognizes the unique skills and experiences brought by military families.
Responsibilities
- Research, collect, analyze, calculate, and prepare information to arrive at a fair and equitable appraisal of the value of residential real estate.
- Work under close supervision, according to set procedures.
- Perform complex real estate appraisals on land and residential properties, including some commercial properties.
- Serve as a lead appraiser and provide assistance to less experienced appraisers.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED. Associate's degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: One (1) year of experience appraising real estate and/or assessment experience preferred. Two (2) years of experience preferred for Appraiser II, Three (3) years of experience preferred for Appraiser III.
- Courses: Successful completion of two (2) basic pre-license courses in real estate appraising from a recognized appraisal organization such as Appraisal Institute (AI), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA).
- Licenses: Virginia Appraiser License preferred.
- Driving: Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Qualifications
- Education: High school graduate or GED completed. Associate's Degree. Bachelor's Degree or higher. None of the above.
- Experience: None. 1-2 years. 3-4 years. 5+ years.
- Courses: Successful completion of two (2) basic pre-license courses. Successful completion of three (3) basic pre-license courses. I have completely fulfilled all course requirements from a recognized appraisal organization and have the appropriate license or professional designation. None of the above.
- Licenses: Yes. No.
- Background Check: Yes. No.
