About the role
We are looking for a Property Accountant to support a large commercial real estate portfolio in Woodbury, New York. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable managing high-volume accounting activity, maintaining accurate financial records, and delivering reliable monthly reporting.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of approximately 30 commercial properties each month, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on schedule.
- Complete month-end close activities, including reviewing account activity, preparing journal entries, and finalizing financial results within established deadlines.
- Maintain the general ledger for assigned properties and ensure balances are properly supported through regular reconciliations.
- Apply accrual-based accounting principles to record expenses, revenue, and adjustments in accordance with company policies and reporting standards.
- Prepare and review property-level financial statements and related schedules to support internal reporting needs.
- Use Yardi software to enter, monitor, and reconcile accounting data while helping maintain the integrity of property financial records.
- Investigate discrepancies, resolve variances, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to address accounting issues affecting assigned properties.
Requirements
- Proven experience in property accounting, preferably within a commercial real estate environment.
- Hands-on proficiency with Yardi software for day-to-day accounting and reporting tasks.
- Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Solid understanding of accrual accounting and general ledger maintenance.
- Experience preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and property-level financial reporting.
- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail in a high-volume accounting setting.
- Ability to manage a portfolio of multiple properties while maintaining consistent quality and timeliness.
