Position description

This position is for a Project Scientist supporting NIH-funded research projects focused on aging and Alzheimer’s disease in Down syndrome. The Project Scientist will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and contribute to ongoing collaborative research programs examining neuropathological and cerebrovascular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease in Down syndrome.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting PI-directed research activities such as project organization, coordination of research workflows, assistance with research project administration and PI-directed grant budgeting activities, tracking project timelines, contributing to progress reports, and assisting with manuscript preparation and grant application development.
  • Contribute to and coordinate PI-directed research projects and may lead defined components of studies under PI supervision, including research projects to evaluate the contribution of cerebrovascular pathology to the development of Alzheimer disease in the brains of people with Down syndrome.
  • Apply advanced neuropathological methods, including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, digital pathology, statistical analysis, and human brain anatomy expertise.
  • Provide technical mentorship and training to research staff, students, and trainees participating in NIH-funded research projects.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong background in neuropathology or neurodegenerative disease research
  • A publication record in Alzheimer’s disease or related fields
  • Expertise in Down syndrome Alzheimer’s disease research is preferred
  • A PhD in neuroscience, neurobiology, molecular biology, or a related field is required, along with at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience
