Project Manager Sr - VW Consulting

About the role

Senior Project Manager position at the U.S. office of Volkswagen Group Consulting (VWC) – the in‑house strategy consultancy of the Volkswagen Group. The role leads top‑management consulting projects to define and reach North America region’s short‑ and long‑term goals across all VW Group brands and entities, shapes consulting strategy, develops talent, improves processes, and distributes thought leadership.

Responsibilities

• Project management (≈70%): lead multiple parallel consulting projects or complex strategy programs at board and top‑management level, make functional decisions on goals, activities, strategic direction, and partner involvement.
• Functional leadership of project teams (up to 9 consultants), evaluate performance, allocate resources based on competencies, availability, and grading mix.
• Participate in project‑related committees and present in board meetings.
• Ensure achievement of profit, budget, and utilization targets for VWC NAR overall and for individual projects.
• Build and manage group‑wide stakeholder relationships at board and top‑management level, acquire projects and identify new business opportunities.
• Strategy & thought leadership (≈15%): define, communicate, and implement business‑unit strategy; lead internal initiatives; develop new topic areas and act as subject‑matter expert.
• Deputize for the VWC NAR head, including committee participation, functional leadership, project staffing, acquisition, and resource optimization.
• Recruiting & talent development (≈15%): recruit top performers, coach and develop consultants along the VWC NAR career path, identify training opportunities and ensure knowledge transfer.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in top‑tier management consulting, automotive, or related industries (e.g., mobility services, tech).
• Network and experience within the VW Group is a strong plus.
• MBA or PhD in business and/or engineering.
• Relevant project and people‑management training.
• Fluent in English; German language proficiency desired.

Skills

• Exceptional consulting track record across levels (consultant to project manager).
• Broad automotive and mobility value‑chain experience (product/portfolio strategy, sales, financing, etc.).
• Proven people‑management toolkit for developing the next generation of consultants.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to create presentations, memos, and top‑down arguments.
• Ideally bilingual in English and German.

Work flexibility

• Sedentary work with low physical requirements.
• Regular national and international travel (up to 4 days per week) within the NAR region and to Germany.
• Flextime based on project needs, with a mix of in‑office and remote work (minimum 2 days per week in‑office).

Compensation

Base salary range for Reston, VA: $127,600 – $229,800, determined by factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, location, and market conditions.
