About the Role

DNV Energy Systems is hiring a Project Manager for Solar Independent Engineering (Distributed Generation, Residential & Storage). In this role, you will work on a variety of distributed generation, community solar, commercial & industrial (C&I), residential solar, and solar + storage projects throughout North America. You will be exposed to the entire project life cycle, working with the biggest developers and financiers in the space with cutting-edge technology.

The primary functions of this role include supporting major customer accounts, performing project due diligence, managing projects, contributing to process improvements, sharing knowledge, obtaining and receiving feedback, and some business development, including developing proposals. By joining our team, you will be part of accelerating the widespread deployment of solar energy and energy storage systems, positively impacting society and the planet.

This role can be based out of a DNV office in Oakland (CA), San Diego (CA), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), New York City (NY), Medford (MA), or Dallas (TX), with a dynamic hybrid schedule requiring at least three days per week in a DNV office or client location/site. The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Support major customer accounts in the solar industry.
  • Perform project due diligence for distributed generation, community solar, C&I, residential solar, and solar + storage projects.
  • Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with strong project and time management skills.
  • Contribute to process improvements and share knowledge within the team.
  • Develop proposals and engage in business development activities.
  • Write clear and detailed technical reports, presentations, and emails.
  • Communicate complex technical issues to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrate a strong Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) mindset and behavior-based safety mentality.
  • Apply a digitally curious mindset with knowledge of AI, automation, and digital tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, energy, or a related field (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the solar industry.
  • Strong project and time management skills, including balancing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Solution-oriented thinking and high integrity.
  • Understanding of energy industry technology (modules, inverters, mounting systems/trackers, balance of system, etc.).
  • Understanding of distributed generation, community solar, and/or residential solar project development, construction, operations, or financing.
  • Supportive, resilient, flexible, and proactive team member with a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in solar industry construction and operating contracts, solar project construction, operations/asset management, solar project design/development, module/inverter technology, energy assessment, power marketing/offtake contracting, energy storage technology, market research/policy, or independent engineering.
  • Familiarity with distributed energy resources (DERs), community solar programs, and residential solar business models.
  • Exposure to contracts (construction, supply, operations, interconnection, offtake, subscription, and/or asset management contracts).
  • Familiarity with budgets and financial models.
  • Working knowledge of PVsyst and solar energy assessment.
  • Understanding of the solar project financing process (direct experience preferred).
  • Working knowledge of energy storage systems, including technology, components, and primary use cases.
  • Project management designation or experience.

Pay

For the states of California, Washington, New York, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland, the starting pay range for this role is $90,000 - $140,000. The actual compensation is influenced by factors such as skill set, level of experience, and specific location.
