Project Manager, Mid-Level (Industrial Construction)

About the Role

Project Managers at Dennis Group are the primary client contact throughout the entire project delivery process, from design concept through bidding, construction, and start-up. In this role, you will ensure each project’s scope, cost, and schedule are successfully met. Our projects focus on designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial projects). The design, engineering, and construction teams are housed within Dennis Group, and the Project Manager actively interacts with each group to drive project success.

The Project Manager’s mission is to provide project management and execution expertise for clients through the entire project lifecycle. This role also plays a vital part in client relationship management, requiring experience, skill, and character to support sales and marketing activities. Success in this role demands excellent leadership, organization, and time management skills, as well as a technical background, professionalism, self-motivation, energy, and strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Work autonomously on specific tasks.
• Manage projects from planning through commissioning, including developing key success criteria and ensuring they are achieved.
• Assist with the development of project scope, budget, schedule, and critical path elements.
• Develop RFIs and prepare purchase/work authorizations.
• Maintain client SharePoint sites.
• Manage in-house and consulting design teamwork products.
• Establish design criteria and review design and construction phase documents.
• Manage permit, code, and regulatory approvals.
• Develop preliminary procurement plans, including preparation of bid packages, bid tabulation, and writing purchase orders/subcontracts.
• Assemble and evaluate potential project bidders.
• Define kick-off meeting agendas and project definition deliverables.
• Coordinate all project communication.
• Develop project outline specifications and conceptual layouts, including understanding facility personnel/materials flows and critical adjacencies.
• Develop medium engineering services proposals.
• Manage the bid process fairly and professionally, including reviewing and approving bid packages.
• Maintain an “Outstanding Items Needs” list and project meeting notes.
• Develop and implement lessons learned for projects.
• Develop and issue monthly reports.
• Determine project permitting needs and update the project forecasting tool monthly.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables and monthly supplier invoices/client billing.
• Develop and maintain submittal and RFI processes.
• Develop preliminary PM/Eng/CM/Start-up support cost estimates.
• Facilitate and manage food safety risk assessments.
• Organize construction trades and administer subcontracts.
• Manage project budgets, expense approvals, contract, and change order administration.
• Oversee equipment installations and provide on-site supervision/coordinate design team support.
• Facilitate project interactive planning sessions and refine/update budget forecasts.
• Finalize procurement plans and manage project punch-list inspections.
• Assemble and maintain complete project records and close-out documents.
• Facilitate and manage client and third-party design reviews.
• Interface with clients, work in client facilities, and visit construction sites.
• Utilize software programs such as MS Office, CAD, Navisworks, MS Project, and SharePoint.
• Research project management best practices and support talent growth within the organization.

Requirements

• Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering.
• 4+ years of experience within a design-build or General Contractor company working with multiple in-house engineering disciplines, architects, and designers.
• 4+ years of experience with MEP industrial construction projects, preferably in food and beverage or pharmaceutical industries.
• 4+ years of experience with building construction, project scheduling, construction estimating, and construction safety.
• 4+ years as a Project Manager with a proven track record of successful project delivery on time, meeting requirements, and with high team satisfaction.
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and other design software.
• Familiarity with sanitary environments is a plus.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines.
• Must meet overnight travel requirement of not less than 50% (70-120 nights out of town annually). Projects are located throughout the United States and Canada, requiring regular collaboration at client facilities and construction sites.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Standing and walking on jobsites over rough terrain may be required.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
