Project Manager, Mid-Level (Industrial Construction)

About the Role

Project Managers are Dennis Group’s primary client contact through the entire project delivery process, from design concept through bidding, construction, and start-up. As a Project Manager, your responsibility is to ensure each project’s scope, cost, and schedule are successfully met. Our projects involve designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial projects). The design/architect teams, engineering teams (multiple), and construction teams are housed within Dennis Group, and the project manager actively interacts with each group to ensure project success. The Project Manager’s mission is to provide project management and execution expertise for clients through the entire project lifecycle.

This role requires excellent leadership, organization, and time management skills, as you will manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Those successful in the role typically have a technical background, are professional, self-motivated, and energetic, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Project Managers also play a vital role in client relationship management, supporting sales and marketing activities.

Responsibilities

• Work autonomously on specific tasks
• Manage projects from planning through commissioning, including developing key success criteria and ensuring they are achieved
• Assist with the development of project scope, budget, schedule, and critical path elements
• Develop RFIs and prepare purchase/work authorizations
• Maintain client SharePoint sites
• Manage in-house and consulting design teamwork products
• Establish design criteria and review design and construction phase documents
• Manage permit, code, and regulatory approvals
• Develop preliminary procurement plans, including preparation of bid packages, bid tabulation, and writing purchase orders/subcontracts
• Assemble and evaluate potential project bidders
• Define kick-off meeting agendas and project deliverables
• Coordinate all project communication
• Develop project outline specifications
• Develop conceptual layouts, understanding facility personnel/materials flows and critical adjacencies
• Develop medium engineering services proposals
• Manage the bid process fairly and professionally, including reviewing and approving bid packages
• Maintain an "Outstanding Items Needs" list and project meeting notes
• Develop and implement lessons learned for projects
• Develop and issue monthly reports
• Determine project permitting needs
• Update the project forecasting tool monthly
• Review and approve engineering deliverables
• Develop preliminary construction cost estimates for site and building
• Define project assumptions/exclusions
• Review and approve monthly supplier invoices and client billing
• Develop and maintain submittal and RFI processes
• Develop preliminary PM/Eng/CM/Start-up support cost estimates
• Facilitate and manage food safety risk assessments
• Organize construction trades and administer subcontracts
• Manage project budget and expense approvals
• Oversee contract and change order administration
• Oversee equipment installations and provide on-site supervision
• Coordinate design team on-site support activities
• Facilitate project interactive planning sessions
• Refine and update budget forecasts
• Finalize procurement plans
• Manage project punch-list inspections
• Assemble and maintain complete project records and close-out documents
• Facilitate and manage client and third-party design reviews
• Interface with clients, working in client facilities and construction sites
• Utilize multiple software programs (MS Office, CAD, Navisworks, MS Project, SharePoint, etc.)
• Research project management best practices
• Support talent growth within the organization

Requirements

• Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering
• 4+ years of experience within a design-build or General Contractor company working with multiple in-house engineering disciplines, architects, and designers
• 4+ years of experience with MEP industrial construction projects, preferably in food and beverage or pharmaceutical industries
• 4+ years of experience with building construction, project scheduling, construction estimating, and construction safety
• 4+ years as a Project Manager with a proven track record of successful project delivery (on time, meeting requirements, with high team satisfaction)
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and other design software
• Familiarity with sanitary environments is a plus
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines
• Must meet overnight travel requirement of not less than 50% (70–120 nights out of town annually)
• Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Standing and walking on jobsites over rough terrain
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Travel

Our projects are located throughout the United States and Canada. This position requires regular collaboration with owners, A/E teams, subcontractors, building officials, and others at client facilities and construction sites. Overnight travel is required at least 50% of the time (70–120 nights annually).
