Project Manager, Mid-Level (Industrial Construction)

About the Role

Project Managers are Dennis Group’s primary client contact through the entire project delivery process, from design concept through bidding, construction, and start-up. As a Project Manager, your responsibility is to ensure each project’s scope, cost, and schedule are successfully met. Our projects involve designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial projects). The design/architect teams, engineering teams (multiple), and construction teams are housed within Dennis Group, and the project manager actively interacts with each group to ensure project success. The Project Manager’s mission is to provide project management and execution expertise for clients through the entire project life cycle.

Project Managers also play a vital role in client relationship management. This role requires excellent leadership, organization, and time management skills, as you will wear many hats. Those finding success typically have a technical background, are professional, self-motivated, and energetic with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Works autonomously on specific tasks
• Managing projects from planning through commissioning, including developing key success criteria for each project and ensuring they are achieved
• Assisting with the development of project scope, budget, schedule, and critical path elements
• Developing RFIs and preparing purchase/work authorizations
• Maintaining client SharePoint sites
• Managing in-house and consulting design teamwork products
• Establishing design criteria; reviewing design and construction phase documents
• Managing permit, code, and regulatory approvals
• Developing preliminary procurement plans (preparation of bid packages, bid tabulation, writing of purchase orders and subcontracts)
• Assembling and evaluating potential project bidders
• Defining kick-off meeting agendas and project definition deliverables
• Coordinating all project communication
• Developing project outline specifications
• Developing conceptual layouts—understanding facility personnel and materials flows, critical adjacencies
• Developing medium engineering services proposals
• Managing bid processes fairly and professionally; reviewing and approving bid packages
• Maintaining an “Outstanding Items Needs” list and project meeting notes
• Developing and implementing lessons learned for projects
• Developing and issuing monthly reports
• Determining project permitting needs
• Updating the project forecasting tool monthly
• Reviewing and approving engineering deliverables
• Developing preliminary construction cost estimates—site and building
• Defining project assumptions/exclusions
• Reviewing and approving monthly supplier invoices and client billing
• Developing and maintaining submittal and RFI processes
• Developing preliminary PM/Eng/CM/Start-up support cost estimates
• Facilitating and managing food safety risk assessments
• Organizing construction trades and administering subcontracts
• Managing project budgets and expense approvals
• Managing contract and change order administration
• Overseeing equipment installations
• Providing on-site supervision and coordinating design team on-site support activities
• Facilitating project interactive planning sessions
• Refining and updating budget forecasts
• Finalizing procurement plans
• Managing project punch-list inspections
• Assembling and maintaining complete project records and close-out documents
• Facilitating and managing client and 3rd party design reviews
• Interfacing with clients, working in client facilities and construction sites
• Utilizing multiple software programs (MS Office, CAD, Navisworks, MS Project, SharePoint, etc.)
• Researching project management best practices
• Supporting talent growth within the organization

Requirements

• Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering
• 4+ years of experience within a design-build or General Contractor company working with multiple in-house engineering disciplines, architects, and designers
• 4+ years of experience with MEP industrial construction projects, preferably in food and beverage or pharmaceutical industries
• 4+ years of experience with building construction, project scheduling, construction estimating, and construction safety
• 4+ years as a Project Manager with a proven track record of successful project management and demonstrated success delivering numerous projects on time, meeting requirements, with high team satisfaction
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and other design software
• Familiarity with sanitary environments is a plus
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines
• Must meet overnight travel requirement of not less than 50% (70-120 nights out of town annually)

Our projects are located throughout the United States and Canada. This position requires working collaboratively with owners, A/E teams, subcontractors, building officials, and others regularly at client facilities and construction sites.

• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
