About the role

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Project Manager in the Renovation & Construction Department.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Hospital Facilities Planning Design and Construction Department while providing Project Management services for the development, design, construction, completion, and activation of University of Chicago Medical Center projects.
  • Support the delivery of numerous strategic and non-strategic capital healthcare projects as well as operations funded projects, both on Hyde Park campus and at other offsite locations.
  • Manage projects including overall budget and schedule, project scope, management consultants, and contractors with oversight of all associated work efforts to manage projects with budgets ranging from $10,000 to $10 million.
  • Coordinate the work of internal resources, as well as consultants and contractors to develop and meet schedule milestones, support the functions of the Facility Operations team, and lead the efforts in informing and reporting out on schedule and budgetary milestones to UCM leadership.
  • Work under or support the work of the Senior Project Manager and Project Director in larger & more complex projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or Project Management) or an equivalent amount of education/experience in these fields would be considered in lieu of a specific degree in the design or construction industry.
  • A minimum of 5 years in the construction or design industry providing significant project management experience with successfully executed projects.
  • Experience in managing scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources in a capital project setting.
  • Experience managing projects in a healthcare environment including Infection Control protocols and mitigation strategies is strongly preferred.
  • Previous work in healthcare operations is preferred.
  • Experience analyzing construction cost and construction schedules, knowledge of the importance of data for troubleshooting construction problems and the ability to provide analysis (specific data) to answer questions.
  • Prior experience managing projects and working effectively in multidisciplinary groups is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience managing outside architects, engineers, and professional service firms.
  • Experience with different design and construction methods such as design-build, design-bid-build, lump sum unit pricing, time & material, cost plus, etc.
