Project Maintenance Technician

About the Role

The Project Maintenance Technician is a hands-on position that provides technical expertise and oversees and participates in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of facility equipment to reduce downtime while increasing operational efficiency in a validated cGMP environment. This includes machinery, buildings, computer systems, control systems, safety, and security systems. The role also involves maintaining shop tools, inventory, and updating the department’s CMMS while adhering to Lean and 5S principles. The position requires proficiency in the requirements of the Technician Maintenance and Project Technician roles and may include training other technicians. After-hours emergency response support is required as needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical troubleshooting on a variety of modalities, technologies, and locations.
• Performs regularly scheduled preventative maintenance on high-volume, validated processing equipment.
• Reviews preventative maintenance tasks for effectiveness and frequency; recommends continuous improvement changes or Lean practices for implementation.
• Diagnoses potential or actual equipment issues through observation, problem identification, and analysis using available information (e.g., cycle printouts, blueprints, schematics); ensures appropriate and efficient corrective action.
• Completes operations and project work through construction and/or installation of systems including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems while complying with all federal and state safety regulations and local safety policies.
• Ensures employee safety by adhering to Lock Out/Tag Out procedures and following SDS safety procedures when using chemicals.
• Develops and implements appropriate work instructions to ensure less experienced technicians can perform routine tasks.
• Responds to emergency maintenance calls on a 24/7 basis as assigned, either in person or via phone support.
• Assists in the creation and maintenance of a spare parts program.
• Strives for continuous improvement by analyzing new or alternative ways to improve operations; incorporates staff recommendations and responds constructively to audit findings.
• Maintains mechanical and technical skills through workshops, trade publications, and training.
• Trains operations personnel to conduct minor, basic repairs to equipment and machinery.
• Contributes to team efforts by adhering to STERIS policies, cGMP, Lean principles, and other directives; supports decisions of higher-level management.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical ladder diagrams and mechanical blueprints.
• Working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) or other process control equipment.
• Ability to effectively read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
• Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
• Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and maintenance work order, inventory, and downtime software.
• Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
• Above-average organizing and analyzing skills, with minimum Level 3 math skills (ratios, proportions, basic algebra) to determine and resolve organizational, customer, and regulatory problems.
• Ability to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
• Normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.

Preferred Experience

• Support for Lean practices and principles.

Skills

• Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, including physical capacity evaluation testing and annual physical, as appropriate.
• Ability to successfully complete Operator training (classroom and hands-on) to become a certified Operator and pass the annual re-certification test.
• If required by the specific modality, subject to passing Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) required background check.
• Empowered to make decisions affecting the daily operation of the Maintenance department and responsible for resolving issues through high-level problem-solving.

Pay

Hourly rate: $27-$33 depending on experience, with a shift differential of $1.50. Pay range for this opportunity is $30.65 - $39.67. This position is eligible for bonus participation. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than the range listed.

Schedule

Shift: Monday to Friday, 11 PM - 7 AM.
