About the role
Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a Project Engineer – Water Resources position. This role may be based in the Jackson, Mississippi, office or any other Neel-Schaffer office across the firm's nine-state footprint.
Responsibilities
- Play a key role in Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) modeling, analysis, and project delivery for a diverse portfolio of water resources projects across multiple states.
- Contribute to regional H&H projects while working alongside experienced engineers and industry experts to deliver innovative solutions for clients and communities.
- Typical projects include various types of roadway and transportation drainage, flood control, bridge hydraulic studies/designs, bridge scour analyses, storm water management studies, design/contract plans for flood control and storm water infrastructure projects.
- Perform a limited amount of field work, including drainage investigations, drainage asset inventorying, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
- EIT certification or PE licensure or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- 4+ years of experience within Water Resources/Hydrology/ Hydraulics.
- Strong communication, analytical skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are necessary with the ability to plan and conceptualize.
- Knowledge of the latest hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling programs, including GIS-based applications, 1D, 2D, dynamic/unsteady-flow – e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D/2D, PCSWMM, SMS, StormCAD, etc.
- Experience with Microstation (and/or GEOPAK/OpenRoads), AutoCAD (and/or Civil 3D), and ArcGIS is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
