About the role

We are seeking a Project Engineer - Lunar Tools to join our team at NASA. This position involves developing project documentation, ensuring project requirements are met, inspecting hardware, and assisting with test procedures and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Developing project documentation and maintaining status of drawings, procurements, risks.
  • Working with design team and analysts to ensure project requirements are achieved.
  • Inspection of hardware upon receipt to verify match with fabrication drawings/models.
  • Test rig and equipment buildup as needed.
  • Data analysis of test results.
  • Aid project management with configuration control of project documentation.
  • Development of test procedures including working with various organizations across JSC for flight certification of hardware.
  • Developing integrated operation con-ops.
  • Preparing presentations.
  • Reporting to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues and for support.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Requirements

  • This position typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2-5 years of experience in the field or a related area.
  • Experience with the development of requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria.
  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware systems.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

Preferences

  • Previous experience in designing and building EVA related unique hardware.
  • Testing experience.
  • Knowledge/use of CAD modeling software.
  • Familiarity with machine shop techniques and processing hardware through the manufacturing process.
  • Experience with NASA flight hardware certification process.
  • Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently.

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
