Project EH&S Manager
About the role
This position is based in our Charleston, SC area. As a Project EH&S Manager, you're Samet's safety leader on the ground in the Charleston region — responsible for the health and safety of every worker, trade partner, client, and member of the public on our job sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide clear, confident safety leadership on assigned job sites across the region.
- Maintain rigorous compliance with OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
- Train Associates and subcontractors on critical safety topics.
- Lead safety orientations with trade partners and subcontractors that set the tone for our safety culture.
- Facilitate meaningful safety meetings and enforce safety standards with accountability.
- Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, accidents, and near misses.
- Receive, review, file, and document safety submittals with meticulous attention to detail.
- Provide expert guidance to subcontractors when they need support.
- Serve as the go-to technical resource and trusted advisor for the project team.
- Build client and internal-customer confidence by exceeding expectations, solving problems quickly, and following through on commitments.
Requirements
- OSHA 30-Hour and/or 500-Hour Construction Safety Training Certification.
- Proven experience in safety management within the general construction industry.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and trade partner community.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (preferred).
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication.
Qualifications
- Physical Demands: A field-intensive role with regular time on active construction sites and periodic office work. Frequently required to stand, walk (including on rough or uneven surfaces), climb stairs and ladders, bend, and wear appropriate PPE. While performing office duties, regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers to handle equipment and files, reach, talk, see, and hear. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Work Environment: A combination of active construction sites in various stages of completion and a professional office environment, with noise and light levels ranging from low to high. Unpleasant or potentially harmful fumes may occasionally be present (proper PPE provided). Temperature varies by location and season. Regular travel between job sites and offices across the region is required.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to manage safety documentation and reporting in industry-standard construction software. Proficiency in SharePoint and the ability to collaborate via Zoom or Teams and type professional correspondence.
- Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, regulations, plans, and specifications.
