Project Controller-Architecture and Engineering

AECOM is seeking an experienced Project Controller to support the Minneapolis, MN architecture and engineering practice. The position can be fully remote, hybrid, or on site at the preference of the applicant. The Project Controls Specialist plays an integral role in ensuring assigned client projects meet financial, schedule, and performance targets as defined by client contracts and internal AECOM expectations. This role will engage in numerous projects delivered by the Ohio Teams, including large, impactful projects located throughout the United States.

Responsibilities

• Be detail-oriented, efficient, and organized; prioritize and meet requirements of multiple competing project demands.
• Apply strong Microsoft Excel skills to analyze data and prepare reports.
• Communicate effectively with teams and lead the project controls function on both small and large projects across a large portfolio and multiple project managers.
• Review performance trends, prepare analysis and cost-impact reports, and recommend contractor invoices for approval.
• Prepare regular cost reports tracking actual and committed costs for subs/vendors against budgets; update forecasts based on earned value, team discussions, and other tools.
• Establish project budgets from proposal estimates and assist the Project Manager with project setup and execution.
• Coordinate with project personnel to develop effective Work Breakdown Structures.
• Communicate budget, cost, and schedule analysis results to the Project Manager and other project leaders.
• Identify issues and successes; develop project recovery plans when required.
• Lead meetings with internal project teams, Project Approvers, and Finance & Accounting.
• Assist Project Managers by working with procurement to establish purchase orders and subcontract agreements; monitor subcontractor or vendor spending against commitments and budgets; raise issues or concerns and complete payment release paperwork to ensure timely payment per terms.
• Assist Project Managers with Salesforce entries and updates.
• Learn basic Federal Contract Requirements to support Project Managers on federal contracts.
• Liaise with subcontractors regarding progress, schedules, and contract administration.
• Monitor Key Performance Indicators including earned value, cost and schedule performance, estimate to completion, and project end dates.
• Proactively track unbilled amounts, invoicing, and aged accounts receivable; report to management.
• Maintain high data quality metrics including forecast end dates and quarterly/monthly estimates to completion.
• Review client invoices for accuracy and establish invoice schedules aligned with contracting terms.
• Prepare and submit monthly reports for internal and external clients.
• Read and understand client contracts and subcontracts, particularly regarding scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
• Coordinate with the project manager to ensure all procedures are in place to meet contractual requirements.
• Communicate with clients about invoicing, payment, contract, and reporting requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum four years of related experience in project controls or demonstrated equivalency.
• U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the project work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Eight or more years of relevant project controls experience.
• Detailed knowledge of project planning and scheduling methods, practices, and earned value.

Pay

The range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 per year, based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
