About the Role
Focus on identifying, developing, and converting high-value project logistics opportunities—from heavy lift, OOG (Out of Gauge), and breakbulk cargoes to full turnkey logistics solutions in industries such as energy, construction, mining, oil & gas, and infrastructure. This is a key sales role for an entrepreneurial-minded professional fluent in project forwarding, thriving in a fast-paced, global environment.

Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the U.S. project logistics market.
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan focused on securing project logistics opportunities across key industries.
- Engage directly with clients, EPC contractors, and industrial stakeholders to understand technical requirements and provide tailored, multimodal transport solutions.
- Craft end-to-end logistics solutions for complex projects involving multimodal transportation.
- Collaborate with operations, pricing, engineering, and compliance teams to design and deliver project forwarding solutions, including chartering, heavy-lift transport, site logistics, and customs compliance.
- Maintain an active understanding of industry trends, competitor activity, and market demands to drive proactive sales strategies.
- Identify and respond to RFPs and tenders, leading bid preparation and commercial submissions.
- Represent Toll at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to promote project capabilities and value proposition.
- Identify new business opportunities through contact with prospective clients and cross-selling new services to existing clients.
- Monitor market trends and competitive rate actions, communicating insights to product and management teams.
- Develop and maintain a client lifecycle program for top clients to drive proactive solution development.
- Build a deep understanding of target customers and assigned accounts, including contact details, commodities, trade lanes, contract information, and service requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of RFQs and bids.
- Identify competitive service strengths and weaknesses, recommending continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide weekly and monthly performance metrics to the sales administrator.
- Understand pricing and cost components associated with proposed solutions.
- Perform additional duties such as sales presentations, developing deliverables, coordinating implementation, and creating marketing materials.
- Enter and maintain customer and sales data in Toll CRM per company policy.
- Meet specific volume and revenue requirements for each product in the Toll portfolio as designated by the SVP, Sales.
- Manage time and sales territory to achieve a minimum of 10 sales calls per week for maximum market exposure.
- Ensure timely responses to all sales leads and key correspondence within identified timelines.
- Manage expenses and company assets in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Comply with Toll’s Business Improvement Programme, Workplace Standards, Code of Conduct, and Global Forwarding Employee Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Travel required: 50% by car and 5% by air.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field.
- Minimum of two to five (2–5) years’ experience in Sales/Business Development.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Global Forwarding operations and market intelligence.
- Energetic, positive attitude with a self-confident and responsible approach.
- Strong communication skills.
Skills
- Proven track record in business development within project logistics, freight forwarding, or heavy transport sectors.
- Ability to interpret and respond to technical customer requirements (e.g., RFQs, tender specs, scope documents).
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify opportunities and translate them into long-term partnerships.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Understanding of Incoterms, chartering, special equipment (flat racks, MAFI, SPMT, etc.), and multimodal planning.
- Hands-on, results-oriented mindset with agility to adapt in complex, evolving environments.
- Strong understanding of project cargo requirements, including OOG (out-of-gauge), heavy-lift, breakbulk, and multimodal transport strategies.
Physical Demands
- Generally sedentary in nature; involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods.
- Must be able to travel.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to talk and hear.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to move inside the office, including reaching, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, and crouching.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to read PC screens, detect color coding, and read fine print or normal type size.
