Project Accountant

Responsibilities

• Manage the accounting activities for assigned project portfolios, ensuring costs, billing, and revenue details are recorded accurately and on time.
• Partner with project managers to evaluate financial performance, monitor spending against plan, and identify risks or variances that require attention.
• Prepare and review project budgets, forecasts, and ongoing financial reports to support informed business decisions.
• Lead regular financial discussions with project leadership, presenting updates on project status, profitability, and key accounting metrics.
• Work closely with senior leaders, partners, and operational teams to resolve financial questions and maintain alignment on project objectives.
• Maintain strong oversight of project data within accounting systems, including support for firms using Deltek or Ajera platforms.
• Develop and refine spreadsheet-based analyses and reporting tools to improve visibility into project costs and budget trends.

Requirements

• Experience in project accounting, preferably within construction, architecture, engineering, or a related project-driven industry.
• Strong knowledge of budget management, cost tracking, and financial reporting for project-based work.
• Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to build and manage detailed financial analyses.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to interact with project managers and senior stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Deltek or Ajera is strongly preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
