About the Role

The Project Accountant will handle accounting, financial tracking, and reporting for the Company's real estate investments, acquisitions, development projects, and other special initiatives. This role collaborates closely with the Controller, project managers, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate cost recording, proper classification, and budget monitoring. The Project Accountant provides management with clear, timely insights into the financial status of each company and project, including expenditures, commitments, remaining budgets, and projected total costs.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain accounting systems for new companies, projects, and real estate entities.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate general ledgers, chart of accounts, financial reporting structures, and accounting procedures.
  • Assist with establishing accounting processes and internal controls for newly formed entities and projects.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly financial statements and management reports for assigned companies and projects.
  • Track project budgets, actual costs, commitments, purchase orders, contracts, and change orders.
  • Review and code project invoices and ensure proper approvals and documentation.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reports and identify significant variances.
  • Track estimated costs to complete and projected total project costs.
  • Assist with real estate acquisition and development accounting.
  • Assist with construction draws and project cash flow forecasting.
  • Reconcile bank, general ledger, and project accounts and prepare related journal entries and accruals.
  • Work with project managers and vendors to resolve billing and cost issues.
  • Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation for each entity and project.
  • Prepare financial reports for management, ownership, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist the Controller with month-end closing, year-end reporting, and other accounting needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with real estate, project, construction, or development accounting strongly preferred.
  • Experience setting up accounting systems, general ledgers, and financial reporting for new entities is a plus.
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple entities and projects.
