Project Accountant
About the role
Christman Constructors, Inc. (CCI) is a premier full-service construction contractor with a tradition of excellence spanning more than a century. Projects span the Midwest, and we are currently seeking a Project Accountant in our Central Michigan region.
Responsibilities
- Supports project teams with accurate financial data.
- Aids Project Managers with project cost projections and reconciliations through project cost reports.
- Serves as a personal Point-of-Contact with Trade Contractors.
- Manages and processes all financial transactions performed in the normal course of a construction project between our company, the project owner, and trade contractors using our database system.
- Manages project start up; load project budgets, issue subcontracts, and perform all other activities required to appropriately structure accounting systems for the project type.
- Processes owner invoices; reconcile job costs, load schedule of values, billing rates, and other information needed to support the contractual invoicing procedure and company risk management and accounting standards.
- Processes trade contractor invoices; reconcile trade contractor invoices, batch, cut and post trade contractor payments, and print checks.
- Manages and processes all financial transactions generated by changes to the original project contract and scope (owner change order and trade contractor change orders).
- Contributes to corporate financial accounting, and has an opportunity and responsibility to contribute to corporate financial accounting systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant course work, or equivalent work experience.
- Three (3+) or more years of relevant work experience.
- Preferred: Detailed knowledge of project contracts and change order documents, knowledge of the construction industry and industry terminology.
Qualifications
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software and databases.
- Knowledge of construction industry practices and terminology.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
