About the role

The Program Specialist – Legal Studies supports the Program Director to ensure the success of the Legal Studies program. This non-tenure track, primarily remote position requires excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, and organizational skills. The role is visible to the College community and the public, interacting with all constituent groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assume teaching duties as assigned within the Legal Studies program.
  • Provide tutoring assistance to students as needed.
  • Prepare students for program progression, employment upon completion, and/or further education through advising and support.
  • Assist the Director in developing, conducting, coordinating, and evaluating experiential learning opportunities for the Legal Studies Program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the legal studies profession and educational methodology through continuing professional development.
  • Participate in curriculum design and ongoing assessment of the program, aligning with ABA standards.
  • Assist the Director with ABA re-approval and compliance tasks.
  • Involvement in all areas of student and program assessment from admission to post-graduation.
  • Oversee the publication of the Law Journal.
  • Serve on College committees as needed.
  • Participate in activities that enhance professional expertise in administration, teaching, and Legal Studies competence.
  • Assist in publicizing and disseminating information about the Legal Studies program.
  • Support the Director in measuring student attainment of program competencies and outcomes.
  • Participate in Lackawanna College professional development opportunities, including CTL and adjunct training.
  • Provide academic advising and course planning support for students.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris doctorate (JD) required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or revising curriculum preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the two- or four-year college level, with a focus on engaging, technology-integrated lessons and assessments.
  • Teaching online experience preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the legal profession and current trends in post-secondary education.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently, strategically, and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support College events and activities.

Physical Requirements
