About the Role

The Program Specialist will coordinate and oversee specific enrichment and specialty programs (such as STEM, arts, financial literacy, leadership, etc.) within the after-school program at ASES Middle School Sites. This role focuses on providing targeted support to afterschool staff, ensuring programs run smoothly, are engaging, and align with the school’s broader educational objectives. The Specialist will work closely with program staff, monitor effectiveness, and ensure all students receive a positive and enriching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise members in program areas, ensuring safety and positive behavior; implement discipline techniques and classroom management.
  • Demonstrate positive values and ethical behavior through program quality and Club appearance.
  • Research, plan, and lead organized learning activities to develop academic, physical, and social skills.
  • Develop culturally relevant daily lesson plans and activities, differentiating as needed for various abilities.
  • Coordinate program services and cooperative learning activities that are fun and instructional.
  • Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events; promote program participation.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Handle daily set-up and clean-up of materials; ensure equipment is safe and well-maintained.
  • Maintain accurate program attendance records and submit them in a timely manner.
  • Assess facility needs and perform janitorial duties or manual labor as required (e.g., cleaning, trash removal, moving equipment).
  • Display enthusiasm and commitment for activities; perform administrative tasks as needed.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment by enforcing safety protocols and reporting concerns.
  • Participate in safety drills and contribute to risk assessment and emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Contribute to the improvement of Club safety and wellness policies.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School diploma or GED (Associate’s degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 48 units of college curriculum or completion of the Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) required; or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Two years’ experience working directly with school-aged youth and knowledge of youth development.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth; instruct, coach, and direct varied activities.
  • Skill in creating a positive learning environment, incorporating academics, enrichment, and recreation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, internet research, and social media navigation.
  • Ability to lead and control groups of children in recreational and educational settings.
  • Effective communication with youth, parents, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to be active and on your feet for a minimum of five hours daily.

  • Clear TB test as required by the school district.
  • Submission of high school diploma or college transcript.
