About the Role

Coordinates activities of personnel at assigned base and collaborates with the Aviation, Maintenance, and Membership Departments. Administrates the financial, marketing, growth, and business aspects for the assigned base.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the daily base activities of the Flight Nurse and Flight Paramedics by visiting the base a minimum of three times a week.
  • Collaborates with Base Pilot Supervisor for pilot activities.
  • Assures proper coverage for all medical shifts and secures replacement staff for all work absences.
  • Reviews electronic payroll of medical crew for accuracy and submits for approval before the stated deadline.
  • Receives and resolves medically related flight problems or issues from medical crews, aviation staff, communications center staff, customers, and patients.
  • Recommends and implements changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of medical staff and base performance.
  • Assures proper use, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment and supplies; oversees inventory and supplies.
  • Oversees base spending, remains within budget, and submits required reports as defined by policy.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and organization of facilities.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings at assigned base in conjunction with the Safety Officer, including preparing an agenda and typing minutes.
  • Ensures crew members follow policy for work-related injuries and exposures.
  • Submits detailed reports to the SPD and RDBO as requested.
  • Collaborates with the appropriate Educator and Medical Director to resolve any deficiencies.
  • Collaborates with the Communications Supervisor and the RDBO on Communications Center issues.
  • Reviews monthly CQI reports and refers those with deficiencies to the appropriate Educator, Medical Director, or Director of Clinical Care Services.

Staff Supervision

  • Delegates assignments and holds employees accountable for work completion.
  • Develops individual medical crew members' talents by promoting professional growth, education, involvement, and decision-making.
  • Accountable for medical crew licensure, certifications, and clinical requirements.
  • Ensures required credentials are submitted by base staff to the corporate office and a copy is kept at the base.
  • Collaborates with Base Clinical Lead (BCL) to ensure assigned staff has required OSHA training and TB testing.
  • Ensures narcotic counts are completed per policy and reports any discrepancies immediately.
  • Interviews and hires candidates for Flight Nurse and Flight Paramedic positions at the assigned base.
  • Assists new employees with completion of the orientation process and monitors performance.
  • Prepares annual employee evaluations for assigned medical staff.
  • Carries out disciplinary action with input from the SPD, RDBO, and Human Resources.
  • Serves as a resource for the dissemination of new information and problem resolution for the medical staff.

Departmental Collaboration

  • Participates in the interview process for the selection of pilots and mechanics to be assigned to the base as requested.
  • Collaborates with the Base Pilot Supervisor and Base Mechanic to ensure the highest level of aircraft reliability.
  • Collaborates with the Base Mechanic when scheduling maintenance to minimize out-of-service (OOS) time.
  • Collaborates with the Base Pilot Supervisor and Base Mechanic for issues involving aviation or maintenance personnel.

Marketing and Business Development

  • Identifies and establishes strong business relationships with all customers within the assigned area.
  • Coordinates customer relations/marketing activities for the base staff.
  • Ensures relationship-building activities occur with each customer through personal visits from the Program Manager.
  • Orders marketing supplies per company policy within the approved budget and ensures appropriate use.
  • Provides approval for all PR activities involving the use of the base aircraft.
  • Attends local and regional EMS/Hospital/advisory group meetings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Two years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Skills

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with staff and present information to management, public groups, and hospital/EMS/911 agencies.
  • Efficient project/task completion and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to elicit staff involvement and a positive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret health and flight-related journals, operational reports, and job-specific legal documents.
  • Computer literacy required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Working Conditions:

  • Required to work frequently near moving mechanical parts.
  • Required to work in outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to blood-borne pathogens or airborne particles.
  • Frequently exposed to vibrations/turbulence.
  • Exposed to loud noise levels requiring headphones while in-flight and at a moderate level in a hospital environment.
  • Frequently required to travel within the region of assignment.

Physical Demands:

  • Reach with hands and arms; speak and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell.
  • Lift and/or move up to 150 pounds cumulatively with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule.
