Program Coordinator I (Metropolitan Area)
Grant funded position. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required; visa sponsorship is not available. Travel up to 25% of the time. Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location and be located in or willing to relocate to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts prior to hire. Hybrid work schedule eligible.
About the role
The Program Coordinator I (Metropolitan Area) will coordinate outreach and technical assistance activities in support of public health workforce awareness in the Metropolitan Area Region (10 counties and the Metropolitan Area Regional Office). This includes supporting initiatives such as K-12 engagement, apprenticeships, fellowships, externships, and internships in collaboration with local health departments (LHDs), academic institutions, and other regional, state, local, and community-based partners.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain relationships with LHDs, K-12 programs, institutions of higher education, and other workforce partners in the 10 counties of the Metropolitan Area.
- Work with LHDs and community-based partners to design and establish internships, fellowships, and externship opportunities; provide ongoing support to LHDs as they implement these programs.
- Coordinate and provide technical assistance support to partners and participants, including training.
- Coordinate the development and maintenance of memoranda of understanding with public health institutions of higher education in the region.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of participants and their placements.
- Communicate regularly and provide ongoing support to host organizations, supervisors, and participants, including identifying current gaps and areas for continuous quality improvement.
- Create and provide oversight for professional development programming for participants.
- Promote public health workforce awareness programs in the region, including at career fairs and community events.
- Perform other appropriate related duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience in program coordination; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience.
- At least one year of experience must have included supervision of staff and/or program management.
- A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of the general experience.
- Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience working on public health program planning, design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Demonstrated professional experience engaging with academic institutions, including K-12 programs and institutions of higher education (colleges and universities).
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with local health departments on public health programming.
- Demonstrated recruitment experience in health care, public health, nursing, and/or clinical positions.
Pay
Annual salary: $90,320. Positions with a designated work location in New York City, Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, or Westchester Counties receive a $4,000 annual downstate adjustment (prorated for part-time positions).
