About the role
You will serve as Program Coordinator I – Greenville for the SC Department of Children's Advocacy, working under limited supervision within the South Carolina Guardian ad Litem (SCGAL) Program. The position involves casework, court preparation, and court attendance in cases where no volunteer Guardian ad Litem has been appointed, as well as training, public relations, and direct advocacy to ensure the best interests of children.
Responsibilities
- Provide casework, court preparation, and court attendance for cases without a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, in accordance with SCGAL best practices and policies.
- Perform direct advocacy for victims of abuse/neglect within the assigned judicial circuit until a volunteer Guardian ad Litem can be appointed.
- Provide direct advocacy through courtesy visits for staff members and volunteers in other counties.
- Maintain current programmatic knowledge of child-specific and hearing-related information for the assigned caseload.
- Complete monthly monitoring reports and input data into the database.
- Maintain accurate case files.
- Provide day-to-day case management, court preparation, supervision, and assistance to volunteer advocates.
- Train and supervise volunteers.
- Assist the coordinator with supervision/management of volunteers, volunteer training sessions, and recruitment efforts as caseload decreases.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with the Department of Social Services, Family Court, and other child-serving agencies.
- Follow directions and leadership of the County Director, Regional Staff, and State Office Staff.
- Follow South Carolina statutes applicable to the Guardian ad Litem Program and the best practices established for the SCGAL Program.
- Exercise judgment and discretion concerning confidential information and case management.
- Complete any special assignments or tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum and additional requirements
- A high school diploma and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, co-workers, and partner agencies.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks, prioritize scheduling, and stay organized.
- Ability to train and supervise volunteers.
- Knowledge of computer applications and data entry.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work under limited supervision and exercise discretion concerning confidential information.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Position may require overnight travel.
- Position may require the employee to work evenings and weekends.
- Position requires routine driver duties.
- Position requires a conditionally essential declaration.
- Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but travel and field work will be required in areas where there are some risks and hazards that are known, predictable, and controllable.
