About the role
The Salvation Army’s Kroc Community Center is hiring a Program Coordinator for Seniors. This position offers a competitive benefit package including generous paid time off, an employer-funded pension plan, and voluntary insurance options.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, and implements recreation programs for senior citizens such as social-recreation activities, arts and crafts, educational programs, and trips/excursions.
- Directs, coordinates, and monitors the work of volunteers.
- Determines program needs through target group assessment.
- Plans and coordinates special events to enhance the quality of life for senior participants.
- Supervises volunteers to assist with the needs of the senior program.
- Drive passenger vans to and from various senior center activities and programs.
- Plans and coordinates special senior events such as Thanksgiving Luncheon, field trips, and social activities.
- Organize and provide quality services in a cost-effective manner.
- Work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
- Obtain first aid/CPR certificate within 6 months after hire date.
Requirements
- Education Requirements: Two years of college, business school, or specialized education focused on seniors. Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Preferred Work Experience: Two years’ experience as a recreation leader or related experience in a public or private recreation program involving the planning, scheduling, implementation and supervision of recreation programs for senior citizens; or substituting successful completion of college level course work in recreation, physical education, gerontology, or a related field for the experience.
Qualifications
- Must understand Senior citizen programming-philosophies, principles and practices.
- Must have an understanding of Community resources available for older adults.
- Must be able to plan and organize recreation programs for older adults.
- Must be able to work well with older adults.
- Communicate and express ideas effectively, both verbally and written.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
