About the Role

The Every Child and Family is Known (ECFIK) initiative ensures that every child and family residing in shelter is connected to a coordinated network of supports that promote educational success, well-being, and long-term stability. Central to the initiative is the Caring Adult model, in which designated school-based staff build trusted relationships with students and families, serve as a consistent point of contact, connect families to school, community, and social service resources, and help remove barriers to learning and engagement.

ECFIK leverages cross-sector partnerships among schools, community-based organizations, nonprofits, and city agencies to provide comprehensive, family-centered support. Through tools such as the Family Portal and Success Planning framework, the initiative strengthens collaboration, enhances family engagement, and ensures that students and families receive timely, coordinated services that support academic achievement and overall well-being.

The ECFIK Program Coordinator performs duties to promote and ensure the consistent school-based implementation of ECFIK in all participating schools. In addition to monitoring and supporting program implementation in schools, the ECFIK Program Coordinator will support the central ECFIK team to promote effective communication, data analysis, and operations. The Program Coordinator develops, fosters, and manages collaborative relationships with school staff, district staff, community-based organizations, and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Plan and co-facilitate professional development workshops for new and developing ECFIK School Teams including administrators, program points, and caring adults.
• Foster working relationships with school-based ECFIK Program Points to provide support and accountability on program implementation, and tracking and improving student outcomes.
• Collaborate with community-based organizations and intergovernmental agencies serving New York City youth and families to design and implement programming that serves ECFIK students and families.
• Coordinate special functions and activities for schools to share resources for students and families.
• Participate in cross-functional working groups; conduct focus groups and support data collection and research to continuously improve program implementation, program outputs, and student outcomes.
• Conduct regular school visits across all five boroughs of New York City to provide on-site coaching, monitoring, technical assistance, and relationship-building support to ECFIK School Teams.
• Review student portal data regularly to assess school progress, monitor implementation fidelity, identify schools requiring additional guidance, and ensure alignment with program goals and expectations.
• Use portal data to identify patterns related to student matching, consent completion, check-in documentation, family engagement, service referrals, follow-up actions, and overall school participation.
• Provide schools with data-informed guidance, feedback, and technical assistance to strengthen implementation, improve documentation quality, and ensure consistent alignment with initiative expectations.
• Support schools in interpreting student portal data (e.g., from the New Visions Portal) and using it to make informed decisions, strengthen Caring Adult practices, improve family engagement, and address barriers impacting students and families.
• Assist in the preparation of high-level reports and presentations for the Executive Director/Senior Director of ECFIK.
• Establish collaborative partnerships with District Superintendents and Student Success Managers.

Requirements

• Minimum: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
• High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in the first option.

Preferred Qualifications

• Travel to different schools throughout New York City.
• Flexibility for an occasional Saturday and evening schedule to support special events, student and family engagement activities, professional development sessions, and other program-related initiatives.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in education, social services, public policy, or similar.
• Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of public education, social services, and students in temporary housing.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
• Experience in developing presentations and reports for varied audiences; ability to write clearly and concisely.
• Exceptional, detail-oriented organizational skills.

Pay

$82,000 - $90,000 (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
