About the role

The Family Coordinator is responsible for providing intensive case management to families experiencing homelessness. The Family Coordinator will assess individual guest needs in a timely manner by providing information and referrals to other supportive community services that will expedite their journey to self-sufficiency. This position requires a passion to help a diverse population who may struggle with medical issues, mental health, and substance use disorders, while upholding the values and mission of the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough intake of all families at the Bishop Dudley House and document progress.
  • Identify housing and resource needs and maintain a complete and comprehensive record system, including obtaining background checks.
  • Work collaboratively with Minnehaha County Social Services and other local agencies that provide resources, housing, financial support, health care, mental health counseling, and veterans advocacy.
  • Evaluate client risk and assess needs for immediate intervention.
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality and conduct yourself in a professional manner.
  • Assist in the development and planning of various aspects of guest programming.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Implement conflict resolution and de-escalation skills to defuse crisis situations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year's experience working with a vulnerable population who struggle with homelessness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Docs, Google Drive, data collection, and HMIS.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of modern social work theory and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients of diverse ages, races, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to flex hours to meet the needs of guests who are working day hours.
  • Provide a high level of customer service.

Physical Demands

The work environment requires the employee to regularly stand and/or sit for the majority of the work day, with frequent walking, bending, stooping, and lifting items weighing between ten (10) and twenty-five (25) pounds. The vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The employee will work with a large number of individuals, often requiring multitasking and working with deadlines and details to ensure all essential functions are performed in a timely and courteous manner.
