Program Assistant - Sarah's House FT (Overnight)

Pay Rate: $16.75/hour

About the role

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Sarah’s House, is looking for a Program Assistant who will provide information, assistance, and security to the program and its guests. The ideal candidate will conduct their work in a welcoming and hospitable manner towards all clients, volunteers, and visitors. Sarah’s House is a supportive housing program offering emergency shelter and project-based housing with an array of services for families experiencing homelessness in Anne Arundel County. We provide safe shelter, daily meals, and casework support for those in need. As a supportive housing program, Sarah’s House is much more than just a safe place to sleep. Our goal is to effect positive change in the families we serve by providing supportive services.

Schedule

Sunday to Thursday, 11 PM to 7 AM

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and secure environment both inside and outside properties for clients, staff members, volunteers, and visitors.
• Monitor compliance with policies and procedures, report incidents, write violations, and perform emergency intervention as required.
• Demonstrate the philosophy of Catholic Charities and the program through participation in activities, positive communication, and a helpful attitude.
• Maintain logs and files related to various programs, ensuring accurate record entries.
• Ensure residents are aware of their rights and the grievance process.
• Monitor building activity to ensure safety, security, and compliance with building policies and procedures.
• React to emergency situations appropriately and professionally.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Program/Position Specific Duties

• Conduct room inspections and assess compliance with established standards; identify areas requiring additional work and report to supervisor.
• Provide general assistance to guests and assist in various aspects of service delivery, including meals, clothing, laundry, restroom, and shower rooms.
• Provide transportation to residents in accordance with established policies, including driving program vehicles safely and maintaining necessary documentation.
• Operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

Requirements

• One year of related experience, preferably working with the homeless or at-risk populations.
• Must be certified in CPR and/or First Aid within six months of employment.
• Must obtain ServSafe® certification (ODB, Sarah’s House, and WHRC - 402000) within six months of employment.
• Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence. No state-issued restrictions that would impede driving ability, and no more than three (3) points on their driving record.

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to use or willingness to learn computer systems and software necessary for the position (basic computer, web browsing, online training, and email usage skills).
• Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
• Good social skills with a respectful demeanor toward staff, clients, and visitors.
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
• Ability to intervene non-violently between individuals.
• Knowledge of basic concepts of personal care, housekeeping, and related areas.
• Ability to relate to and show consideration for a variety of personalities.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Medium work, including moving objects up to 50 pounds.
• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
• Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
