About the role
The purpose of this position is to serve as a para-professional within the Children & Families Unit, assisting Social Workers with families under stress and at risk of out-of-home placements. This role also supports Access functions, including Youth Justice referral entry, legal status documentation, and legal document uploads. Work is performed under the supervision of the Family and Children’s Services Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Provide CPS Access intake coverage, accepting walk-in reports and entering written reports while on the phone with reporters, following intake protocols.
- Make independent access recommendations during screening determinations.
- Interview and effectively gather information from reporters and stakeholders in various situations.
- Fully and accurately document all reports in electronic systems (e.g., eWiSACWIS, Microsoft Office Suite) according to relevant standards.
- Participate in Access staffing of referrals for child protection and youth justice, offering input based on family knowledge.
- Coordinate, assist with, or provide support services to families, including parent/family training, supervised visitation, daily living skills training, and monitoring compliance with agreements and court orders.
- Provide information and education to parents, encouraging the use of individual and family support systems.
- Conduct supervised child visits, emphasizing and teaching child management skills, including transportation of children and parents.
- Maintain ongoing communication (at least bi-weekly) with assigned social workers or case workers regarding family progress in behavioral, parenting, or individual counseling.
- Carry out family skills training as identified in case plans, monitoring and reporting progress to the social worker or case worker.
- Coordinate work and services with community resources and attend case staffing meetings with other agencies as required.
- Maintain an innovative and non-judgmental approach when dealing with families.
- Provide professional court testimony for assigned cases as directed by the supervisor.
- Maintain client service records (paper and electronic) per agency policy and case service plans.
- Receive and enter Youth Justice and Truancy Referrals into eWiSACWIS, including intake form uploads, restitution, and victim response documentation.
- Monitor, receive, and upload truancy and attendance reports, entering data into new or ongoing youth case files.
- Receive JV and JC hearing notifications, enter hearings on shared calendars, and upload legal status in eWiSACWIS immediately.
- Apply departmental policies and procedures regarding confidentiality.
- Perform records maintenance and clerical activities in accordance with department policies.
- Attend supervisor-approved staff training and meetings as required.
Requirements
- 2 years of documented credit in higher education with at least 15 credit hours in Social Work, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Administration, or a related field; or 5 years of human service-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Good knowledge of household management, child development, parenting skills, financial counseling, problem-solving, and human behavior.
- Knowledge of available community resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to engage clients and establish positive working relationships.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including documentation of case activities and client education/training.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.
Skills
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to represent the county and department professionally and courteously in all interactions.
- Professionalism, patience, and kindness in repetitive interactions, including educating the community and navigating confrontational conversations.
- Ability to prioritize workload and enter reports accurately in real-time.
- Preferred typing speed of 65–75 WPM and ability to navigate multiple systems simultaneously.

- Ability to assemble, copy, record, and transcribe data and information.
- Ability to explain, demonstrate, and clarify policies, procedures, and standards to others.

- Ability to utilize descriptive data, including billing statements, purchase orders, program forms, spreadsheets, regulations, and software manuals.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with agency personnel, clients, other agencies, and the public.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to interpret basic statistical reports.
- Functional reasoning for semi-routine tasks with some choice of action.
