Responsibilities
- Aid in the administrative components of the Youth Center, including routine typing, filing, transcribing, and preparing materials.
- Assist the Youth Director with program duties, such as supervising after-school children, completing homework assignments, tutoring, crafts, and computer stations.
- Help with room preparations, scheduling activities, meal preparation, and clean-up, as well as recreation activities.
- Safeguard the safety and well-being of students by learning their needs, helping them achieve personal goals, and following Safe from Harm Guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A passion for The Salvation Army's mission and ability to communicate it effectively.
- One to two years of experience working with youth.
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including email, MS Office, and Internet/Social Media platforms.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people and follow Safe from Harm Certification.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Skills
- Able to give clear and respectful direction and guidance to children.
- Able to receive and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors.
- Able to complete basic attendance reports and maintain participant records.
- Able to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
- Able to initiate, develop, and follow through with new and current programs.
