Position Overview
The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation offers exciting year-round part-time employment opportunities for individuals passionate about working with people with disabilities.
About the Role
Disability Services supports participants in childcare programs, classes, special events, and recreation activities. Positions are available at various Northern, Countywide, and Southern Area locations throughout Prince George's County.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs with their peers.
- Actively participate in all program activities, assist with the adaptation of activities, and help facilitate social interactions.
- Advocate for the full inclusion of participants within the program.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, participants, and parents/guardians.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding disability, medical, and personal information.
Requirements
- Willingness to actively participate in all program activities.
- Experience working in recreation programs, childcare, or education programs, or supporting children/adults with disabilities.
Qualifications
- Minimum age varies depending on the position.
- High school diploma and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or two to four years of related disability experience for Inclusion Support Staff I and Inclusion Support Staff II respectively.
- Two years of college in a related field and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or four to six years of related disability experience for Inclusion Support Staff III.
Benefits
May be subject to medical, drug, and alcohol testing. Mandatory trainings include CPR, First Aid, AED, Inclusion/Therapeutic Recreation Orientation, Disability Characteristics, Behavior Management techniques, and other designated trainings. No benefits package is provided.
Schedule
Part-time/Intermittent positions. Work may be indoors or outdoors.
