Professor of Practice in Human Resources Management

Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi, United States

Position Type: Full-time, nine-month faculty position starting January 2027. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

About the Role

The School of Management within the College of Business and Economic Development invites applications for a Professor of Practice in Human Resources Management. This role supports the BSBA in Human Resources Management degree program, focusing on exceptional teaching, student mentoring, and active engagement within the professional human resources community. We seek a dynamic leader with significant professional experience to bridge classroom concepts with real-world industry practice.

Responsibilities

• Teach four courses per semester (or equivalent), including undergraduate and graduate courses in human resources management and related subjects.
• Deliver high-quality teaching across both online and in-person formats, emphasizing experiential learning opportunities.
• Contribute to curriculum development to ensure relevance and alignment with current industry trends.
• Partner with faculty to integrate human resources management concepts into interdisciplinary university programs.
• Maintain active professional development and networking within the regional and national human resources community.
• Mentor undergraduate students, support undergraduate research, assist with student recruitment, and participate in service activities across the School, College, and University.
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in human resources management or a closely related field from an accredited business school (AACSB, ACBSP, or LACBE), including at least 18 graduate credit hours in human resources management or management.
• Significant professional experience in human resources management.
• Demonstrated teaching experience supporting undergraduate and graduate programs in both online and in-person formats.
• Documented eligibility for legal employment in the United States.

Skills

• Deep knowledge of human resources management principles, practices, employment laws, and contemporary industry trends.
• Knowledge of instructional design and classroom management for traditional and online delivery formats.
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to provide timely and effective student feedback.
• Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas), online teaching tools, and standard office productivity suites (Microsoft Office).
• Ability to build relationships and interact productively with a diverse student body and staff population.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive professional experience in military and/or civilian human resources management.
• Passion for recruiting and retaining students, particularly military-connected students.
• Ability to build diverse student connections and business partnerships.
• Drive to contribute to a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to guide students in becoming professional problem solvers.
• Willingness to serve as a faculty advisor to the student chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management.
