Job Summary
The “Lecturer in Ancient Languages” position works on three fronts:
- Offering semester long classes in Latin and Greek (and occasionally in Hebrew)
- Tutoring Cardinal Glennon College students in their SLU classes
- Working as a writing tutor for all seminarians.
- Aid with providing Latin I and II classes.
- Provide Greek I and II classes.
- Offer Hebrew classes as needed.
- Work with Cardinal Glennon College freshmen and sophomores (Propaedeutic I & II) as a tutor for their SLU classes.
- Provide writing assistance to all Kenrick-Glennon seminarians.
- May also tutor philosophy students (Discipleship I & II) as needed.
- Doctorate in Philosophy or Theology, with special emphasis in use of ancient languages; OR Master’s Degree in Ancient Languages.
- Experience and training in various methods of teaching languages preferred.
- Experience with writing – especially publications in philosophy or theology.
- Respect for the mission of the Church.
- Supportive of Seminary mission of forming priests for the Catholic Church.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to a business or personal nature that is shared or acquired during the course of your work.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others is essential.
- Must be willing to take direction from the Academic Dean and President-Rector.
- Positive in all interactions with faculty, staff, seminarians and visitors to the facilities is essential.
