Production Support Engineer – Wealth Management (IT)
About the role
Our client, a leading financial services provider, is seeking a Production Support Engineer to join their team. This is a 6-month contract opportunity based in Chicago, IL, following a hybrid work model with three onsite days per week (Tuesday through Thursday). This role supports a mission-critical Wealth Management application serving approximately 80,000 users across the U.S., running on WebLogic, PCF, and Azure Cloud. The engineer will handle day-to-day production support, incident resolution, and troubleshooting — including hands-on code changes and fixes when needed — working closely with Client Servicing teams, Relationship Managers, and development partners (no direct interaction with end clients).
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day production support for a mission-critical, client-facing Wealth Management application, handling approximately 30–50 tickets per week as part of a 3-person U.S. team
- Troubleshoot production issues through monitoring, log analysis, and code analysis; perform root cause analysis and make code changes/fixes when needed
- Track and manage Incidents, Changes, and Problems for assigned applications, providing regular, high-quality updates to stakeholders including SLA risks and breaches
- Participate in project and development team meetings to discuss production issues for prioritization, fixes, and releases
- Coordinate with onsite and offshore Managed Services providers and partners to support applications and drive continuous improvement efforts
- Ensure compliance with audit requirements, including change control procedures and data security
- Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately once every 3 weeks), with weekend/after-hours support only when required for critical production incidents
Required skills & experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience (open through senior level)
- Java application production support experience, with strong hands-on skills in Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues, analyze code, and perform root cause analysis — comfortable making code changes and fixes (not support-only)
- Experience supporting client-facing, mission-critical applications
- Production Support, SRE, or Service Delivery background
- Experience reading application architecture and participating in technical discussions
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to business partners and client servicing teams
Preferred qualifications
- Azure Cloud experience (candidates with strong Java/Spring Boot experience will still be considered if cloud experience is limited)
- Experience with PCF (Pivotal Cloud Foundry)
- Experience supporting applications deployed on WebLogic
- Exposure to UI/front-end technologies (JavaScript), as the application includes UI, middleware, and backend components
- Banking or financial services background
Key competencies & behaviors
- Technically hands-on: able to both support and troubleshoot applications, not just monitor incidents
- Strong ownership and accountability for production stability
- Clear, proactive stakeholder communication under pressure
- Analytical problem-solving and root cause analysis mindset
- Collaboration across development, client servicing, vendor, and offshore teams
