Production Superintendent - Machine Shop, Assembly, and Paint

About the role
We are seeking a Production Superintendent for our Chattanooga, TN facility. This role is responsible for creating safety awareness, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and leading the execution of long- and short-term strategies to meet or exceed financial and operational targets. The Production Superintendent will drive quality initiatives, promote lean transformation, and develop a culture of problem-solving while collaborating with operations, quality, and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Create safety awareness by observing, auditing, and coaching safe work behaviors and conditions.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Direct and execute strategies to meet or exceed financial and operational targets.
- Guide the adoption of Quality at the Source by driving root cause countermeasures and coordinating resources across operations, quality, and engineering.
- Develop and administer processes for successful schedule compliance in support of organizational service goals.
- Promote lean transformation through educational interactions with production supervisors and operators.
- Write kaizen event charters and facilitate events as needed.
- Monitor and develop performance metrics to improve key process indicators.
- Collaborate with engineers and operations personnel on equipment design, procedures, and production processes.
- Participate in monthly production forecasts and annual operating plans; make staffing and overtime recommendations.
- Act as Value Stream Manager when necessary.
- Coach and develop talent within the department, fostering a culture of problem-solving.
- Develop and support leader standard work to the highest standards.
- Actively participate in the Strategy Deployment process to drive continuous improvement.
- Partner with Human Resources to align individual performance with organizational goals.
- Conduct performance appraisals for direct reports.
- Track and leverage manpower to drive optimal productivity.
- Optimize inventory in support of Just-in-Time (JIT) requirements.
- Maintain workflow by monitoring processes, personnel, and resources.
- Maintain a working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Metallurgy, Industrial, Mechanical, or similar technical discipline) or other appropriate field; professional certifications are beneficial.
- Minimum of 7+ years of manufacturing operations experience in a high-volume environment with a union workforce.
- Strong work ethic, outgoing and assertive personality, and excellent team-building skills.
- Professional PC literacy in MS Word and Excel.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing operations.
