About the role

The role of Superintendent at Great Dane involves coordinating and directing the activities of production departments or shifts to ensure safe, on-time, and quality product delivery. Key responsibilities include managing labor, overseeing safety, coaching supervisors, and driving a safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Defines direct labor staffing plans and prepares lines for successful shift starts.
  • Manages rework, defects, and scrap, implementing root cause corrective actions.
  • Affirms accurate and timely completion of NPO records and NCM processes.
  • Manages and coaches Supervisors in applying lean concepts to achieve Safety, Quality, On-time delivery, and cost targets.
  • Conducts safety observations, 5S reviews, and BIQ board walks to enhance safety and BIQ capabilities.
  • Ensures proper functioning of the sort team and timely, accurate feedback responses.
  • Follows up on RCCA actions to ensure their sustainability.
  • Maintains and audits the training matrices and standard work compliance.
  • Conducts STC board walks to improve schedule and timing control.
  • Advises ME/IE and Ops managers on proper overspeed, ensures delay capture accuracy, and eliminates constraints.
  • Ensures the sorting and feedback process is timely and accurate.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, training, and resolving conflicts.
  • Supports the Scheduling process and Production Engineering reviews to identify discrepancies.
  • Communicates with Operations Manager and other Superintendents to address safety, employee, tooling, and quality concerns.

Qualifications

  • Education: GED or high school diploma, with a college degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to motivate teams, supervise, and lead, understanding of safety culture, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, problem-solving, algebra, geometry, reading and interpreting production and manufacturing designs, and effective communication.

Physical/Mental Requirements

The role requires spending 20% of the time in an office and 80% in a manufacturing environment. Physical demands include exposure to shop hazards such as high noise levels, heavy machinery, and potential for scrapes, punctures, and cuts. Mental requirements include handling multiple priorities and adapting to constant change.
